Why a water filter is useful for the CS soaker hose

  • Prevents clogging: dirt particles are retained before they can affect the fine pores of the soaker hose
  • Supports even water distribution: clean water helps provide calm and consistent irrigation for your plants
  • Extends service life: the CS soaker hose and other system components are effectively protected
  • Choose according to water quality: depending on the level of contamination, 125 micron, 60 micron, 50 micron, 25 micron and 20 micron are available
  • Consider iron and limescale: special filters are useful for iron containing or hard water
  • Also useful with tap water: especially in older galvanized water pipes, deposits can loosen and be retained by a filter

Important note on 20 and 25 micron filter inserts

The 20 micron and 25 micron filter inserts are braided filter inserts for particularly fine filtration. They are not suitable for pressureless irrigation, as the water flow can be restricted too much by the very fine filter material.

Use 20 or 25 micron primarily when more heavily contaminated water is supplied with a pump. For coarse contamination, pre filtration with 50 micron or 60 micron is recommended so that the fine braided filter insert does not clog too quickly.

Filter material and filtration fineness clearly explained

The micron rating describes how fine the filter insert works. The smaller the micron value, the finer the particles that can be retained. At the same time, finer filtration increases resistance in the water flow. For this reason, the filter should not simply be selected according to the lowest micron value, but according to water source, contamination level, flow rate and operating method.

Braided or polyester mesh?

  • 20 and 25 micron: braided filter inserts for very fine dirt particles and more heavily contaminated water, preferably with pump operation
  • 50 and 60 micron: polyester mesh filter inserts for good filtration performance with better water flow
  • 125 micron: coarser filtration for tap water and also available as a combined solution with integrated 1 bar pressure regulator

5 inch filter

The 5 inch filter is more compact and is well suited for smaller irrigation projects, standard applications and limited installation space. It provides good filtration performance for moderate water demand.

10 inch filter

Thanks to its larger filter surface and the longer residence time of the water inside the filter, the 10 inch filter provides better filtration performance. It is particularly useful for higher water throughput or more demanding irrigation systems.

The key difference

The main difference between 5 inch and 10 inch is throughput and filtration performance. In the 10 inch filter, the water remains in the filter area for longer and can therefore be cleaned more effectively.

Practical recommendation: For rainwater or cistern water, a 60 micron filter is often useful because this polyester mesh insert offers a good balance between filtration performance and water flow. Once available, the 50 micron filter can also be used when slightly finer filtration is desired. For heavier contamination, 25 micron or 20 micron can be used after pre filtration. These braided inserts filter more finely, but require more water pressure and are therefore not suitable for pressureless systems. For normal tap water, a 125 micron filter is often sufficient, especially if older pipework is present. For iron containing or hard water, the corresponding special filters should be used once available.
